Demonstrates improved metal ion adsorption in clinoptilolite, suggesting enhanced environmental remediation potential.
The adsorption properties of Ukrainian clinoptilolite for Fe(III), Cu(II), Pb(II), and Cd(II) ions were studied after its treatment with ultrasound and subsequent chemical modification of the mineral surface by in situ immobilization of copolymer poly(5-(4-nitro)phenylazo-8-hydroxyquinoline-co-methyl methacrylate [MMA]) and adsorption of a pre-synthesized copolymer poly(5-(4-nitro)phenylazo-8-hydroxyquinoline-co-MMA). The changes in the parameters of the mineral surface after ultrasonic treatment and subsequent immobilization of polymers are shown. It has been established that ultrasonic treatment and chemical modification of the clinoptilolite surface with polymers enhance the original mineral’s capacity for Fe(III), Cu(II), Pb(II), and Cd(II) ions.
