Assesses genomic sequences of influenza A viruses in Bangladesh, suggesting improvements for vaccine design.
Influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 and A(H3N2) viruses collected from sentinel surveillance in Bangladesh (BD) underwent full genomic sequencing during the 2023 flu season. Phylogenetic and amino acid analyses of the hemagglutinin gene showed the BD-2023 strains, which follow Southern Hemisphere circulation patterns, to be more closely related to the 2023–24 Northern Hemisphere strains than the WHO-recommended vaccine strains for 2023–24.
