Analyzes convergence of discrete dynamical systems, suggesting novel quantum implications.
We propose a novel thermodynamic framework for analyzing the convergence of discrete dynamical systems, using the 3n+1 problem (the Collatz conjecture) as a benchmark. Departing from traditional arithmetic approaches, we map the iterative process onto the evolution of an open quantum system. We demonstrate that determining the parity of a number at each step constitutes a quantum measurement that inherently requires information erasure. By integrating Landauer's principle with the Lindblad master equation, we establish that infinite divergent trajectories are physically prohibited by the system's own dissipative dynamics. We construct the system's Hamiltonian and numerically demonstrate that any initial state undergoes an irreversible collapse into the ground state (vacuum) in finite time due to energy dissipation. Ultimately, our findings reframe the convergence of discrete maps from a purely number-theoretic challenge into a direct consequence of the laws of quantum thermodynamics.
