Research draft explores the history of mining in Bygoo, indicating relationships between gold and tin mining.
Description: This publication is an early research draft examining the history of mining at Bygoo and the surrounding Warri-Ardlethan district of New South Wales. It traces the evolution of the district from the reported discovery of the Mount Meurant goldfield in 1888 through subsequent gold mining activity, the development of the Bygoo mines, and the emergence of the internationally significant Ardlethan tin field. The work synthesises newspaper reports, government notices, mining reports, historical maps, and geographic analysis to reconstruct the development of the district and identify relationships between early gold discoveries and later tin mining operations. This deposition should be regarded as an evolving research document rather than a completed historical monograph. Numerous primary sources remain to be examined, including Mining Warden reports, Geological Survey publications, Mining Department correspondence, parish and crown plans, mining lease records, cadastral maps, railway survey plans, and surviving company documentation. Future editions will include: Complete geological interpretation. Chronological reconstruction of all known mines. Mapping of historical mining leases. Integration of parish and cadastral mapping. Reconstruction of transport and settlement history. Comparison with modern geological mapping. Detailed treatment of the transition from gold to tin mining. Comprehensive bibliography and archival references. Gazetteer of historical place names. High-quality cartographic figures and historical illustrations.
