Photonic Universe Hypothesis (PUH) — T261 — FOUNDATIONAL PROOF-ARCHITECTURE LEAD NOTE. PUH uses the E8 substrate throughout but has never stated in one place what it IS — in particular whether the rebound changes the E8 STRUCTURE (group, lattice, dimensionality) or only the STATE of a field on a fixed structure. This note addresses that at the proof-architecture level: it does not prove the answer, but shows which answer the archive already requires, what a full proof needs, and the one missing ingredient. THE CENTRAL OBSERVATION: two load-bearing theorems already commit the framework. - T156 proves Planck Shell reflection from conservation of the degree-30 E8 Casimir invariant (C8, H=0). - T178 derives the continuity lock r1 (dr1/dt) =r2 (dr2/dt) (outer expansion = inner core-drain; H = fractional drain rate) from the same Casimir-level conservation. Casimir invariants are invariants OF a fixed Lie-Poisson structure. If the rebound changed the E8 structure itself, the Casimirs would not be conserved through it, and BOTH T156's reflection proof and T178's continuity lock would BREAK. THE CONSEQUENCE: the archive is ALREADY COMMITTED to STATE-CHANGE — fixed eternal E8 structure, dynamic condensate field. Flat/uninflated field configuration before rebound (= the Super Polariton Field) ; inflated configuration after (= the T178 annulus between r1 and r2). Structural/dimensional change is not merely disfavoured — adopting it would falsify T156/T178 as derived. SUBSTRATE ONTOLOGY (stated plainly): the E8 STRUCTURE (algebra, roots, 248 dims, 8 Casimirs) is FIXED — it does not inflate or change dimension. The condensate FIELD phi is DYNAMIC — flat ground state before, inflated after. The rebound is a phi₀ -> inflated transition within fixed structure, plausibly Z3-triggered (T136/T242) ; our universe is an inflated region, the SPF the surrounding uninflated field (T231 interface). WHAT REMAINS TO PROVE: (i) exhibit a flat minimal-energy ground state phi₀ on the fixed E8 manifold (the uninflated SPF) ; (ii) realize the rebound as a phi₀ -> inflated transition reproducing the T178 annular geometry; (iii) confirm the transition PRESERVES the Casimir structure — THE DECISIVE TEST (preservation confirms state-change; necessary alteration would force structural change and require rebuilding T156/T178). THE MISSING PIECE: step (i) cannot be done here — exhibiting phi₀ requires minimizing the substrate tension energy, i. e. the substrate EQUATION OF STATE, which the archive repeatedly flags as unbuilt (T245 names it; T252 says k, u0, clock not derived without it; T254 says it is required). phi₀ is CHARACTERIZED (minimal-tension configuration) but not COMPUTED. A variational EXPECTATION (not result) is recorded, consistent with T259/T260: phi₀ should be the maximally-symmetric, minimal-tension configuration — the high-dimensional analog of a flat untensioned membrane. Contribution: foundational clarification + proof-architecture. Framework already assumes state-change (T156/T178 require fixed structure) ; proof reduces to flat ground state + Casimir-preserving rebound; ground-state computation awaits the equation of state.
