Structure-factor analysis reveals localized order in Mediterranean seabed pockmarks, indicating no hyperuniformity.
Code, derived data and figures for a hyperuniformity-class analysis of submarine pockmark fields, using single fields from the open Mediterranean pockmark geodatabase of Spatola et al. (2025). Combining the Clark-Evans nearest-neighbour index with the radial structure factor S(k) and number variance against complete-spatial-randomness, hard-core and inhomogeneous-Poisson nulls, we find that local order spans clustered to regular, but every field is long-range super-Poissonian and matches its own inhomogeneous-Poisson null: no field is hyperuniform, and the one genuinely regular field is an anisotropic lineament. Pockmark order is local and steric or structural, heterogeneity-limited at long range. Nearest-neighbour regularity must not be read as long-range order without a structure-factor test. The raw geodatabase is third-party data (Spatola et al. 2025, CC-BY-4.0) and is not redistributed here.
