Examines sensory mapping in library spaces, indicating enhanced understanding for neurodivergent users, suggesting improvements for inclusivity.
This study examines how user perspectives can guide the development of a sensory map for an academic library. The study utilized a draft sensory map and a user survey to collect input on sensory experiences as well as desired improvements to both the map and the physical space. Findings indicate that the map enhanced users' understanding of the library space, particularly for those who identified as neurodivergent or sensory-sensitive. Participants also emphasized the importance of clearer spatial information and additional sensory-friendly supports. Overall, the results highlight the importance of incorporating user input into creating sensory maps and advancing more inclusive library environments.
