Randomized trial demonstrates that parent training and feedback devices reduce traffic violations in teens, suggesting the importance of ongoing communication.
Parents who are trained in how to help their teens be safe drivers can be very helpful in reinforcing driving safety, but feedback from devices are essential to this, according to a randomized clinical trial (RCT). The trial combined in‐vehicle and smartphone‐based driving feedback with parent training, and found that this combination was helpful in reducing traffic violations. However, continued parental involvement after licensure, especially if the teens had traffic violations, might be the key, the researchers concluded.
