Explores mental health decline and antidepressant use among retirees, suggesting deeper implications for elderly care.
There is a general belief that mental health might deteriorate and antidepressant use might increase in people who exit the workforce, likely due to loss of identity associated with work and/or lack of preparedness for life after retirement (Lewer et al., 2015). Trajectories of mental health and antidepressant use have primarily been studied in younger populations, however, despite the long projected lifespan for many individuals post‐retirement.
