Suicide is a major public health issue, and social workers are likely to work with people affected by suicide, regardless of the setting. While previous calls have urged the need for more educational content on suicide for graduate-level social work students, we contend that the undergraduate social work curriculum should also include content on suicide prevention and intervention. As the initial qualifying level for social work practice in many jurisdictions, Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)–level practitioners are a missing link in suicide prevention and intervention initiatives. Training and education specific to BSW-level social workers may help fill a critical gap. We recommend training areas and potential content to support development of curriculum appropriate to BSW students and social workers.
