This study aims to analyse the impact of gender inequality in land ownership on household food expenditure in Burkina Faso. Using panel data from the Permanent Agricultural Survey (EPA), which covers 854 households from 2014 to 2019, and an instrumental variable strategy to address concerns about endogeneity, the study provides new evidence on the impact of gender-based land inequality on household food expenditure. The results suggest that gender inequality in land ownership has a negative influence on household food expenditure. These findings suggest the implementation of policies that grant women at least 30% of household land ownership rights.
