Tensile tests show the structural performance of bent carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic wire, indicating its mechanical properties for spatial structures.
Carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic stranded wire (CFRTP wire) is a cable comprised of multiple carbon fiber strands covered with glass fiber, which are twisted and bundled together. When applying cables to spatial structures, some cable ends are bent into a U-shape for fastening. The structural performance of this bent part has not yet been clarified for CFRTP wire. Therefore, in this paper, the tensile tests are executed for U-shaped cable specimens with several different sheave diameters, and the test results are summarized from three aspects; the strength, the axial stiffness and the process of how the composed strands are tightened.
