Finds effective detection of inter-turn short-circuit faults in induction generators, suggesting improved maintenance strategies.
This paper presents a robust fault indicator to detect Inter‐Turn Short‐Circuit Fault (ITSCF). The Hilbert–Park vector approach is used to quantify ITSCF in the stator winding of a Double‐Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). Theoretical studies with a short‐circuit model of the machine are first proposed, followed by an experimental validation of this approach. The direct and quadrature components of the vector envelope are analyzed in Concordia and Park reference frames and lead to evaluate a severity index. The obtained results confirm the reliability of this method. It permits an early ITSCF's detection, which is crucial for preventing critical failures. This approach was applied to a 0.27 kW DFIG designed to reproduce a short‐circuit rate between 2.5% and 40%.
