Descriptive statistics reveal a fluctuation in assault trends affecting nursing personnel, suggesting ongoing risks.
Nursing personnel are disproportionately affected by workplace violence in health care settings. This study provides an updated and comprehensive assessment of assault trends on nursing personnel from 2019 through 2025 using the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators data. Data from Press Ganey's National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators were analyzed. Descriptive statistics of assaults on nursing personnel were calculated. Assault rates remained stable from 2019 to 2021, increased through 2023 and early 2024, and then declined modestly through 2025, while remaining above prepandemic baseline levels. Overall, these findings suggest that the national surge in assaults on nursing personnel has moderated but not ended. The opportunity now is to move workplace violence prevention to the next level and building more targeted, system-level responses.
