ABSTRACT Polymer waterproof coating can effectively prevent rainwater, snow melting agents, and other substances from infiltrating the cement concrete, preventing steel corrosion and freeze–thaw damage. However, the polymer waterproof coatings generally have a short service life, and moisture can still penetrate into the cement concrete, leading to a decrease in the overall life of the cement concrete. This problem increases the safety hazards and maintenance costs of the building, bridge and so on. Here, a novel polyurea‐based hydrophobic coating is prepared, which combines the dual characteristics of the polyurea matrix and hydrophobicity to improve waterproof performance. At the same time, the influence of temperature on the waterproof performance of the polyurea‐based hydrophobic coating is investigated. The results show that the coating exhibits excellent waterproof performance over a wide temperature range from −70°C to 70°C. The mechanism of good waterproof performance is explored and analyzed. These research results provide a theoretical basis and new methods for further designing and preparing high‐performance waterproof coatings for application in cement concrete.
