This article explores the synergies between comparative education and teacher education. Specifically, it examines the value of a comparative education perspective for studying teacher education, its use as a subject within teacher education, and its potential to inform the practice of teachers and teacher educators. After outlining the commonalities and differences between the two fields, the article discusses the ontologies, theoretical frameworks, and methods of comparative teacher education research as an emerging field. Adopting a comparative approach benefits teacher education in three key areas: fostering international collaboration and innovation within teacher education programmes, understanding the systemic forces impacting teacher education, and enhancing the practice and professional development of educators. Ultimately, this approach helps comparativists confirm continuities with teacher education while empowering education professionals to address pressing international issues and navigate the complexities of a globalized education landscape.
