This perspective provides the physician-scientist interested in seeking funding for their innovation from venture organizations with practical advice. The catalyst for this brief manuscript is the growing acceptance and importance of commercialization paths recognized by the American Thoracic Society and its Respiratory Innovation Summit, which proceeds each annual meeting. Advice is presented in the form of points to consider prior to pitching one's idea as well as an overview of the foundational elements of such a pitch. This includes its purpose and overarching elements, the importance of team makeup and cohesiveness, and suggested follow ups to optimize one's efforts in preparing and delivering their asset.
