Book I introduces the Science of Difference in various domains, inviting interdisciplinary exploration.
DESCRIPTION Book I – DIFFERENTICS: Science of Difference is the introductory volume of the DIFFERENTH Series, presenting DIFFERENTICS as a proposed interdisciplinary field dedicated to the systematic study of Difference as a universal phenomenon across nature, science, technology, and human cognition. Written as an academic popular science book, this volume introduces the fundamental question, "What is Difference?", and explores how the concept of difference appears throughout physics, biology, mathematics, information theory, artificial intelligence, and the cognitive sciences. Rather than replacing existing scientific disciplines, the book proposes a unifying conceptual perspective through which recurring patterns of difference, distinction, relation, transformation, and organization can be examined across multiple domains of knowledge. The book also provides the first public introduction to the broader DIFFERENTH Architecture, consisting of five complementary research directions: DIFFERENTICS – Science of Difference; DIFFERENTOLOGY – The Ontology of Difference; DIFFERENTOSOPHY – The Philosophy of Difference; DIFFERENTISM – Living Through Difference; Formal Differentics – Formal Foundations of Differentics. As the opening volume of the series, this work is intended for a broad audience, including students, researchers, educators, engineers, philosophers, and anyone interested in interdisciplinary approaches to scientific knowledge. It serves as an accessible gateway to the conceptual foundations of the DIFFERENTH Mega Project while outlining future directions for theoretical development and interdisciplinary research. The ideas presented in this book are offered as a research framework and an invitation to scholarly dialogue. They aim to stimulate discussion, critical evaluation, and future investigation into the possibility of establishing Difference as a coherent interdisciplinary subject of scientific inquiry.
