Newly identified Osmiini species expand the biodiversity knowledge in Algeria, suggesting ecological significance.
Seven species of Osmiini (Megachilidae) are reported for the first time in Algeria: Haetosmia circumventa, Stenoheriades maroccana, Wainia eremoplana, Hoplitis aqabaensis, Hoplitis batyamae, Hoplitis limassolica and Hoplitis prazi. The first three species belong to genera previously unrecorded in the Algerian fauna. Data on visited plants and flight periods are also provided, contributing valuable information to the understanding of the ecology and biodiversity of Osmiini bees. The newly recorded species were collected from a wide range of habitats, including agricultural landscapes, Saharan environments and urban areas. Notably, urban habitats were found to host a substantial bee fauna, even comprising species previously unknown from the country.
