This special issue explores how resonance impacts education and adolescent development, suggesting key ethical implications.
This essay introduces the special issue ’Resonance, Education, and Adolescence.’ The special issue brings together a diverse set of papers focused on drawing out the educational and ethical implications of Hartmut Rosa’s thinking on resonance. We believe these papers demonstrate the importance of Rosa’s work for education, and we hope that this issue serves to jumpstart a range of conversations that will become of central importance to educators, parents, policymakers, researchers, and school leaders. Each paper uses resonance as a framework to explore education, and each demonstrates the generative nature of resonance as a concept. By integrating an ethical perspective, this special issue probes how resonance can guide adolescent development toward values such as empathy, respect, and social responsibility, thereby contributing to discussions of what it means to lead a good life during this formative stage of the lifespan. Reading through the issue, we hope readers will gain a broad understanding of this concept, and are encouraged to use this concept to view their work and concerns through this lens.
