Experimental study investigates seismic performance in prefabricated shear walls, suggesting improved strength with specific reinforcements.
This paper presents a modular prefabricated reinforced concrete shear wall featuring in-plane geometric asymmetry, with panels connected by unbonded high-strength bolts. Pseudo-static tests and finite element simulations were conducted to investigate the effects of bolt grade and preload level on seismic performance. The hysteretic response exhibited significant pinching and asymmetry. Owing to the asymmetric geometry, horizontal loading induced torsional deformation in the bottom transverse rib, reducing the yield strength by up to 16%. With the overall geometry held constant, increasing the longitudinal reinforcement ratio in the longitudinal ribs and the stirrup ratio in the bottom transverse rib effectively mitigated torsional effects and alleviated the associated strength degradation.
