Scoping review identifies educational approaches in space situational and domain awareness, suggesting integration with educational science theories.
As space operations grow in complexity, both civilian and military sectors depend on skilled professionals in space situational awareness (SSA) and space domain awareness (SDA). Despite SSA and SDA share common technical foundations, educational and training approaches for these fields are underexplored. This scoping review identifies existing educational and training methods developed for SSA and SDA. Despite using broad search criteria, only a limited number of relevant studies were found. The identified approaches included university curricula, courses, and simulations. Moreover, studies described technological applications, like artificial intelligence and machine learning with potential educational and training implementations, though these were rarely framed as such. Yet, the literature emphasized technical tools of development, reflecting a lack of interdisciplinary approaches. To advance the field, future research could integrate educational science theories to better align the technological innovations with the learner needs in SSA and SDA contexts.
