Evaluates the impact of surfactant on xanthan gum solutions, highlighting novel analysis methods.
In this study, the nonlinear viscoelastic response of xanthan gum (XG) solutions containing varying concentrations of tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB) was comparatively investigated using Fourier‐transform rheology (FT‐rheology), Chebyshev decomposition, Lissajous–Bowditch analysis, and Sequence of Physical Processes (SPP) analysis. It was found that increasing TTAB concentration progressively weakened the elastic XG network and promoted earlier onset of nonlinear deformation. Harmonic analysis revealed increasing nonlinear contributions through evolution of the I 3 / I 1 ratio, while Chebyshev coefficients and Lissajous curves identified transitions in intracycle strain softening and viscous dissipation behavior. SPP analysis further provided phase‐resolved mapping of elastic–viscous state evolution, enabling direct visualization of transient structural pathways during oscillatory deformation. Comparative evaluation demonstrated that the LAOS methodologies offer complementary sensitivity to surfactant‐induced structural transitions, with SPP providing enhanced mechanistic interpretation of yielding dynamics and intracycle viscoelastic evolution. These findings highlight the value of integrated LAOS characterization for probing complex polymer–surfactant systems.
