Personal reflections on Cilla Whatcott’s journey in homeopathy and her impactful legacy in disease prevention.
I first got to know my friend and colleague, Cilla Whatcott, in 2013 when she and her then working companion came to Texas for the annual conference of the Texas Society of Homeopathy (TSH) to present about their work in homeoprophylaxis. I was completely taken in by what they shared on Sunday morning. When I got to talking with Cilla afterwards, things just seemed to ‘click’ between us. I became a board member of their organisation. In the summer of 2014, I travelled to Europe and, there, back to my former home of Germany to talk with people there about this. It was a tremendous trip. And when I came back, I had the strong feeling that a conference for homeoprophylaxis needed to happen. I shared this idea with Cilla, and she also very much liked the idea herself. She and I went to Toronto in August of that year to see a presentation Dr Isaac Golden of Australia had come to make on homeoprophylaxis. Cilla and I shared a room in Toronto. We had some good conversations about homeopathy and homeoprophylaxis. After this, Cilla realised that she needed to make a break from her working companion and the organisation she helped found. This proved very tough, and Cilla and I spent hours talking on the phone. Cilla always had such a kind heart and didn't want to hurt this companion. But I was able to help her see and acknowledge that she was being hurt and this would be a very good break to make. I was so glad to have been able to be there for her at this time. Then Cilla and I put together the world's first conference with a focus on homeoprophylaxis, which took place in Dallas, Texas in October, 2015. The title was Homeoprophylaxis: A Worldwide Choice for Disease Prevention. To it, came speakers we invited from around the world, including Dr Isaac Golden, Dr Harry van der Zee from the Netherlands, Dr Andrew Wakefield from the UK (now living in Texas), Dr Tetyana Obukhanych from Ukraine (now living in Washington State) and attorney, Alan Phillips. We also had attendees not just from the United States but some from India as well. After this conference, I knew another one needed to happen. But Cilla wanted to go her own way, which was absolutely fine with me. She put together another smaller conference for homeoprophylaxis that took place the next year (2016) in Florida. But then she decided to make her focus on ‘Real Immunity,’ which proved a tremendous and very successful work for her. She also helped me as I made things firm with my homeopathic practise. I will always be grateful for her helpfulness and patience. She taught homeopathy at a community college where she lived in Minnesota, so she knew how to work with people of all knowledge/ability. I was very grateful for her direction. With this all, Cilla made it absolutely clear to me how much she loved her own family. She shared with me about many challenges she faced and overcame through her life. I admire very much her perseverance. In spite of the many challenges she faced, she made it absolutely clear her priority was her family, and that she loved her husband and her children dearly. This clearly shined through to me. I will always remember Cilla's kindness and generosity – this, alone, is such a strength to be remembered.
