Pilot project enhances spatial reasoning skills in participants, revealing challenges for design education improvement.
This research presents a pilot project for developing spatial knowledge through Incremental geometry-driven progression that proceeds from point to mass. The study applies mixed qualitative and quantitative methods. These include synthetic literature review for framework development and action research and case study for project implementation. They also include quantitative and qualitative surveys to test the learning areas and levels for the project participants. Data are collected through observation, analysis of project outcomes, and anonymous surveys. Results are analyzed using statistical and thematic analysis methods. The findings show that the Point-Line-Plane-Space-Mass (PLPSM) sequence helps improve spatial reasoning and visualization skills. However, it also highlights various challenges and limitations, especially in the transition from flat compositions to three-dimensional spaces, which need further attention in higher education of design.
