Essay investigates how Estado Vegetal blends posthumanist and ecofeminist ideas, suggesting new theatrical possibilities.
The essay investigates how Manuela Infante’s play Estado Vegetal (2017) engages with posthumanist thought by staging a constitutive entanglement between vegetal thinking and ecofeminist theory. Focusing on the material and speculative dimensions of Infante’s performance, we argue that the work dismantles anthropocentric theatrical conventions while reframing ecofeminist tropes. We conclude that Infante’s non-anthropocentric theatre functions not as an achieved totality but as an aesthetic apparatus that proposes the conditions for a theatre to come.
