ABSTRACT This systematic review critically examines empirical research on retirement financial planning (RFP) in China, framed by the PRISMA guidelines and the “C‐RFP‐C” protocol. The protocol is registered at OSF ( https://osf.io/f3nps ). Specialized databases such as EconLit, Business Source Premier, ABI/INFORM, Social Sciences Citation Index, and AgeLine were used, as well as multidisciplinary databases and Chinese‐language sources (CNKI and Wanfang). The search strategies employed yielded a total of 2035 documents related to RFP within the Chinese context. After rigorous screening and quality appraisal, 55 studies met the established inclusion criteria and were synthesized qualitatively. The synthesis highlights the central role of financial literacy in RFP, alongside the influence of psychological, social, and institutional factors. Across studies, persistent disparities emerge across gender and between urban and rural populations. Motivational factors such as future orientation and goal clarity shape willingness to plan and save, while opportunities for retirement planning are strongly conditioned by income, asset ownership, pension design, and access to financial and digital infrastructure. Overall, the findings underscore the multidimensional and context‐dependent nature of RFP in China, as structured by the interaction of capacity, willingness, and opportunity.
