Case report highlights cancer risk from phototherapy in a woman with vitiligo.
Vitiligo is a common pigmentary disorder that is effectively managed with phototherapy, which is generally safe. Although narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy is commonly used for long-term treatment, the potential cancer risk over time remains uncertain. We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma occurring over a vitiliginous patch in a 48-year-old woman with a long history of vitiligo, which developed after 8 years of NB-UVB treatment.
