Perspective paper discusses the influence of six key attributes on geotechnical engineering practice, highlighting their significance.
This Perspective paper reflects on the role of six attributes—Patience, People, Preparation, Perseverance, Progress and Perception—in shaping geotechnical engineering practice. Each of these concepts has played an important role in my career over the past 25 years and has influenced many of the projects I have worked on as well as shaping me personally. The 6 Ps represent behaviours and mindsets that have affected project outcomes as much as any calculation or specification. This commentary considers their relevance to the day-to-day realities of geotechnical engineering and the lessons they have to offer.
