I criticize van Loon and Buster’s comments on Dialogical Self Theory (DST) on three grounds: (a) confusing the levels of theory and research and attributing statements to me that I never made; (b) misrepresenting the relationship between self and nature, ignoring literature in the field of DST directly relevant to their thesis; and (c) putting DST in a Cartesian corner which is not only in contradiction to the basics of DST, but also to literature dealing with the conceptual differences between DST and the Cartesian self.
