Randomized trial shows altered blood parameters in sheep, indicating infection intensity effects.
The article presents the results of a study of morphological blood parameters in sheep with spontaneous gastrointestinal strongylid infection of varying intensity. It was established that at a low intensity of infection, the erythrocyte count decreased by 4.6%, while hemoglobin levels decreased by 7.2% compared with the control group. At a high intensity of infection, these parameters decreased by 15.1% and 36.4%, respectively. The most pronounced changes were recorded on the 14th day of the study. During this period, the leukocyte count increased by 17.8% in sheep with a high intensity of infection. The eosinophil count increased by 33.3% at low intensity and by 97.2% at high intensity of infection. The number of band neutrophils increased by 33.3% at low intensity and by 125.0% at high intensity of infection.
