Isolated rat hearts were perfused with Krebs–Henseleit solution and divided into four groups: Sham, Sham + FCD, I/R, and I/R + FCD.
The I/R group underwent 10 minutes of perfusion, 30 minutes of global no-flow ischemia, and 40 minutes of reperfusion.
FCD was administered during the final 40 minutes of the Sham + FCD group and throughout reperfusion in the I/R + FCD group.
FCD significantly reduced microvascular obstruction compared to I/R alone.
Transmission electron microscopy revealed preservation of the endothelial glycocalyx in the I/R + FCD group.
FCD treatment significantly decreased pericapillary edema and increased nitrite levels during early and late reperfusion.
