Demonstrates the radiation characteristics of hexagonal microstrip antennas, suggesting improved design approaches.
The present study analyzes the performance of a Hexagonal Microstrip Antenna (HMA) by employing the conformal mapping technique (CMT). Through the application of an appropriate mapping function, the HMA geometry is represented as a circular microstrip antenna with a normalized unit radius. Within the transformed domain, the HMA wave equation is established, and the Galerkin technique is applied to evaluate the approximate eigenmodes and eigenvalues. Resonant frequency , (frc), internal field profiles, input impedance, and electric field distributions in the far-field of HMA are analyzed using CMT. Two antenna prototypes are fabricated for experimental verification. The resonant frequency of the HMA is predicted by the proposed theory with accuracy better than 1.5%. This theoretical approach not only quickly evaluates the performance of an HMA but also provides the instructions to design an HMA.
