Comprehensive review evaluates bus lane efficiency and design in transport planning, indicating key advancements.
Bus lanes serve as a key bus-priority strategy aimed at enhancing the speed, reliability, and overall efficiency of bus services by providing dedicated or prioritized roadways for buses. This paper reviews studies bus lanes published from 1969 to 2024, employing bibliometric analysis to systematically identify the distribution of journal publications, influential papers, leading contributors, and dominant research themes. Then, the literature is categorized into four main areas: (1) design and planning of bus lanes; (2) evaluation of bus-lane operational efficiency; (3) broader impacts of bus-lane implementation; and (4) bus operation strategies combined with other methods. This review aims to provides researchers, planners, and engineers with a comprehensive and structured understanding of advancements in bus-lane studies.
