This study investigates how employees’ perceptions of generative AI tools, specifically their perceived usefulness and ease of use, relate to psychological empowerment in the workplace. Drawing on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Spreitzer’s empowerment framework, we examined whether these relationships differ across employee personality profiles, defined through a person-centered latent profile analysis of the Big Five traits. Data were collected from 501 working adults in Greece, a context undergoing digital transformation. Structural equation modelling revealed that both perceived usefulness and ease of use of AI tools were positively associated with psychological empowerment dimensions, though ease of use showed broader associations. Latent profile analysis identified three distinct personality profiles, but multigroup SEM indicated that personality did not significantly moderate the association of AI perceptions with empowerment. The study contributes to the integration of psychological and technology acceptance theories and underscores the value of human-centered AI design in promoting equitable psychological outcomes in diverse workforces.
