This review essay applauds Christian W. Chun’s book A World without Capitalism? for its rich combination of applied linguistics, discourse analysis, and Marxism, of particular interest to readers of Rethinking Marxism. The essay shows how Chun’s skillful use of in-depth interviews with a variety of people from different walks of life reveals the complex contradictions produced by our various experiences of capitalism. The essay closes by further asking about the role and processes of Gramscian “organic intellectuals.”
