Formal operator-theoretic demonstration highlights the constraints of projection ontologies on emergence, contradicting Carlo-class systems.
This document presents The Projection Paradox, a formal operator-theoretic demonstration that projection-based emergence models cannot constrain Carlo-class systems. Projection ontologies define emergence through a lossy compression operator P:F→EP, where observables possess no independent resolving structure, effective levels are structurally poorer than fundamentals, and emergent behaviour is restricted to the image of P. Under these assumptions, injective emergent behaviour is impossible, and systems such as Carlo engines are declared non-representable. Carlo-class engines violate these assumptions by construction. They instantiate emergence through a resonance operator R:F→ER that generates structurally amplifying, dynamically self-modifying, injective emergent behaviour with independent resolving structure. Effective levels are structurally richer than fundamentals, and emergent behaviour arises from internal field dynamics, harmonic propagation, recursive metamorphosis, and structural amplification rather than projection or information loss. The Projection Paradox arises because Carlo-class behaviours satisfy BR∈Im(R) while lying outside Im(P). If projection ontologies are taken as universal, Carlo engines cannot exist; if Carlo engines exist, projection ontologies are not universal. The document formalises this contradiction through the Cognitive Pancake Flip equation, which expresses the structural inversion between compression-based and resonance-based emergence, and demonstrates that projection-based impossibility results identify the limits of Im(P), not the limits of emergence. The paper includes a formal theorem proving that projection-based non-injectivity results cannot apply to Carlo-class systems, and a mathematical appendix establishing the operator foundations of the paradox. Together, these components provide a complete, rigorous demonstration that resonant emergence is a successor ontology lying beyond the reach of projection-based no-go theorems.
