Nurse-led self-adherence education markedly boosts physical activity, diet, and medication compliance post-MI.
Why the study?
Self-management is crucial in the treatment of coronary artery disease, but the influence of a self-adherence educational nursing protocol on health outcomes in MI patients needed evaluation.
Does a self-adherence educational nursing protocol improve adherence to physical activity, diet, and medication in adult patients recently diagnosed with myocardial infarction?
Does a self-adherence educational nursing protocol improve adherence to physical activity, diet, and medication in adult patients recently diagnosed with myocardial infarction?
Implementation of a self-care management protocol effectively improves adherence to physical activity, diet, and medication in post-MI patients, potentially reducing readmission rates.
Background: Myocardial infarction (MI), often known as a heart attack, occurs when blood flow in a portion of the heart decreases or stops, causing damage to the heart's muscles. In the treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD), self-management is crucial. Aim of the study: evaluate the influence of a self-adherence educational nursing protocol on selected health outcomes among Myocardial infarction patients. Research design: A quasi-experimental research design was employed to achieve the study's objective. Subjects: A purposive sample including (80) adult patients recently diagnosed with myocardial infarction. Setting: This study was conducted at cardiothoracic surgery Minia University Hospital's that affiliated to Minia University hospitals, New Minia City, Egypt. Tools: Four tools were utilized: Tool I: structured interview sheet includes two parts (socio-demographic and medical data) Tool II: Physical Activity adherence sheet. Tool III is the nutrition Adherence sheet and Tool IV is the medication adherence sheet. Results: The present study demonstrated a marked improvement in the level of physical activity, dietary regimen adherence and medication adherence among the study participants following the implementation of the self-management protocol. Conclusion: Application of self-care management protocol was very effective in improving the level of physical activity and medication adherence among patient post MI which consequently reduced the readmission rate. Recommendations: Developing in-service training programs for nurses to enhance their knowledge and practice about the significance of patient adherence to physical activity range of motion, diet, and medication for myocardial infarction patients.

Elkhalik et al. (2026) studied Myocardial infarction (n=80). Self-adherence educational nursing protocol was evaluated on Level of physical activity, dietary regimen adherence, and medication adherence. A self-adherence educational nursing protocol markedly improved physical activity, dietary regimen adherence, and medication adherence among 80 patients post-myocardial infarction.
