Smart audio guide has the potential to create immersive soundscapes that shape tourists’ auditory spatial and emotional engagement during travel by conveying emotional cues. However, previous studies have not clarified emotional expression in smart audio guide and its impact on the tourist experience. Drawing on the perspective of soundscape, this study investigates the impact of aesthetic and moral emotional expressions in smart audio guide on tourist experience through two scenario-based experiments and one field experiments. The findings reveal situational differences: aesthetic emotional expression enhances tourist experience in low-context attractions, while moral emotional expression improves tourist experience in high-context attractions. Furthermore, this study explores the mediating effects of flow experience and meaningful experience, and the moderating effects of acoustic emotional intensity. This study expands tourist experience’s theoretical framework and provides guidance for smart audio guide’s content design and application.
