With the advent of the AIGC era, the tension between human leadership and machine automation has intensified, bringing the call for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HCAI) into the educational field. However, there is a lack of comprehensive reviews on HCAI research in this field. This study conducts a systematic literature review of 24 papers from seven databases to analyze the current state and future trends of HCAI in education. Findings show: (1) HCAI research in education is mainly theoretical, with the U.S. and China being the most active contributors. (2) Research is primarily published in educational technology and computer science journals. (3) Five key research areas include HCAI applications, theoretical models, integration with educational technology, teaching philosophy, and ethics in education. (4) Based on the review of the literature, this study offers a multi-layered outlook on feasible future pathways for the field, aiming to enrich the theoretical understanding of HCAI applications in education and provide specific guidance and recommendations for practical applications, thereby advancing both the theoretical and practical development of the field.
