Demonstrates improved wear resistance and cell properties in titanium alloy with new coatings, indicating biomedical potential.
This study aims to investigate the effect of bioactive coatings produced by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) on CP-Ti and TNZT alloy substrates, focusing on the incorporation of Ca, P, and Mg ions and their influence on the structural, tribological, and biological properties. The analysis revealed the formation of porous coatings mainly composed of TiO 2 , and cubic ZrO 2 phases. Tribological tests demonstrated a significant improvement in abrasive wear resistance, especially for the coated TNZT alloy. In addition, SEM images and crystal violet assays showed enhanced cell adhesion and no evidence of cytotoxic effects under the tested conditions. The results indicate that the developed coatings are promising for biomedical applications, combining mechanical performance and surface bioactivity.
