Develops a biorepository for medicinal plants in the Western Ghats, implying enhanced conservation efforts.
Societal Impact Statement Medicinal plants support healthcare for millions of people and sustain livelihoods, yet many threatened species lack secure long‐term genetic protection. This study establishes a genomic and herbarium biorepository for medicinal plants of the Western Ghats, a global biodiversity hotspot facing intense human pressure. By preserving genome‐quality tissues linked to verified herbarium vouchers and making them globally accessible, the initiative strengthens conservation planning, improves species identification in medicinal plant supply chains and supports future research, restoration and policy decisions. The work provides a practical, plant‐focused solution for safeguarding biodiversity while sustaining resources essential for human health and sustainable development.
