Analyzes environmental and sediment characteristics in the habitat of O. bengalense, suggesting variations across locations.
O. bengalense has been identified in the waters of Belawan Pulau Sicanang, through morphological and molecular analysis. However, information regarding its natural habitat remains very limited. This study aims to analyze environmental and sediment parameters in its natural habitat. The environmental and sediment characteristics of the O. bengalense habitat were evaluated through field measurements and laboratory analysis. Measurements were taken at three different locations that serve as habitats for O. bengalense: pond area, residential area, and mangrove ecosystem. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with Microsoft Excel and PAST software. PCA analysis indicated that TSS was the primary habitat characteristic at Station 1, whereas Station 2 was characterized by higher values for BOD, COD, DO, water hardness, NH₃, conductivity, temperature, and sandy sediment. These results indicate distinct environmental and sedimentary conditions that influence the habitat characteristics of O. bengalense in the waters of Belawan Pulau Sicanang. Furthermore, at Station 3, the primary characteristics are clay content, pH, turbidity, and salinity. Conclusions based on these findings indicate that the key parameters defining the habitat of O. bengalense differ across each observation station, suggesting that this eel species is capable of tolerating variations in environmental conditions and sediment.
