This review outlines synthesis and applications of eco-friendly silver chalcogenide quantum dots in optoelectronics, suggesting promising advancements.
Silver chalcogenide colloidal quantum dots, including binary Ag2Q and ternary AgBiQ2 (Q=S, Se, Te), represent promising eco-friendly alternatives for near-infrared to short-wave infrared optoelectronics, owing to their solution processability, tunable bandgaps, and high stability. This review systematically outlines their crystal structures, electronic band properties, synthesis strategies, and key applications in optoelectronics. With recent advances in surface engineering and device architecture, the performance of these eco-friendly quantum dots now rivals that of conventional heavy-metal-based counterparts. Future research should prioritize understanding underlying material mechanisms, developing greener synthesis routes, and further improving device performance to enable widespread practical adoption.
