Assesses waterproofing and crack mitigation in building construction, indicating improved durability and cost-effectiveness.
Cracks and water leakages represent the most persistent and costly defects in contemporary building construction, compromising structural integrity, increasing maintenance expenditures, and reducing building lifespan. This paper presents a comprehensive, multi-layered waterproofing and crack-resistance system for external cementitious plaster applications. The proposed triple-action defense mechanism integrates three synergistic layers: (1) SBR latex-based bonding for enhanced adhesion and primary sealing, (2) SBR-modified mortar for internal flexibility and crack resistance, and (3) organosilane nano-sealing for breathable hydrophobic protection. The system is coordinated using Autodesk Building Information Modeling (BIM) for precise 3D visualization and construction management, while D4COST software provides comprehensive lifecycle cost analysis. Through systematic analysis of failure mechanisms, materials science integration, and construction optimization, the proposed system demonstrates superior durability, enhanced water leakage prevention, and long-term crack mitigation while remaining economically viable compared to conventional approaches. The integration of advanced digital tools ensures improved project delivery, quality control, and value optimization.
