Analysis identifies market segments and evaluates heat recovery feasibility in Europe, indicating opportunities for sustainable data center solutions.
The need for data centres is critical, and they are a rapidly growing component of Europe's digital infrastructure. Currently, most data centres reject the large volumes of excess heat generated by their cooling systems to the atmosphere. The project "Two-phase Immersion Cooling with Integrated Heat Upgrade in Data Centres" (CoolHeatDC) addresses this issue by developing two-phase immersion cooling systems with integrated heat pump technology, which can efficiently cool high-density data centres and recover upgraded excess heat for external use. This deliverable presents the results of Task 2.1: An analysis of data centre markets in Austria, Norway, and Poland. The analysis defines relevant market segments in each country, identifies potential heat sinks, and evaluates the technical, spatial, and regulatory conditions under which the recovery of excess heat is feasible. These findings will inform the definition of key performance indicators in Task 2.2 and the development of use case scenarios in Task 2.3.
