Multivariate analysis reveals immigration status affects gun control support among students, mediated by political ideology.
Gun violence on college campuses has intensified debates over firearm policy in universities. This study examines whether immigration status influences support for gun control measures at a Southern U.S. university. Multivariate analysis shows immigration status alone does not predict support for policies such as mandatory firearm registration or universal background checks. However, it is linked to support for raising the minimum age for carrying firearms. Political ideology mediates this relationship, suggesting that ideological socialization shapes attitudes toward gun regulations. The findings highlight the importance of culturally informed, evidence-based campus safety initiatives that encourage civic engagement and promote well-being within communities
