This article designs a novel target using shock waves for thermonuclear fusion, highlighting potential benefits.
This article describes the design of a new type complex target for laser thermonuclear fusion in which an impact on a target with thermonuclear fuel is carried out by shock waves rather than by radiation, as has been done so far. To accumulate energy in shock waves, it is proposed to use the properties of a ball made of an agent capable of transmitting pressure. The energy is basically locked inside the target. This method will reduce the intractable problems of laser fusion in the form of inhomogeneities, instabilities, and energy losses. The proposed idea should be tested experimentally.
