Review outlines management strategies for post-operative care in patients with anterior mediastinal masses, highlighting critical considerations.
Anterior mediastinal mass has a heterogeneous pathology and often presents an appalling challenge to the anesthesiologists and intensivists. Some patients may deteriorate suddenly, leading to immense stress on the treating crew. The type and size of the mass, level of and degree of organ compression, surgical techniques, and structures removed alter the post-operative course. It is always better to start the post-operative care from the preoperative period. Early identification of vulnerable patients is always ideal to accelerate timely and pertinent management. This review sketches out the management of these patients during their intensive care unit stay.
