ECR Spotlight interviews investigate energy efficiency of locomotion in zebrafish, highlighting the importance of early-career researchers in experimental biology.
ECR Spotlight is a series of interviews with early-career authors from a selection of papers published in Journal of Experimental Biology and aims to promote not only the diversity of early-career researchers (ECRs) working in experimental biology but also the huge variety of animals and physiological systems that are essential for the ‘comparative’ approach. Miki Jahn is an author on ‘ Thyroid hormone determines energy efficiency of locomotion in zebrafish (Danio rerio) in a temperature-sensitive manner’, published in JEB. Miki conducted the research described in this article while a PhD student in Frank Seebacher's lab at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Sydney, Australia. Miki is now an Associate Lecturer in Biology and Ecology at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Sydney, Australia, investigating the physiological mechanisms that influence energy allocation trade-offs and shape organismal performance and life-history outcomes.
